You Don’t Have To Have A Baby To Be A Mother
On Mother’s Day, so much of the focus is on biological mothers and how grateful we are for all they do for us. Whitney Johnson, the author of the critically-acclaimed Disrupt Yourself and host of the podcast by the same name, interviewed Caroline Boudreaux, the Founder and CEO of the Miracle Foundation, on how even those without children can be mothers. Here’s what Caroline had to say.
I was miserable on my 30th birthday. I woke up single, childless, and surrounded by luxury. I had everything that money could buy—but no contentment, fulfillment, purpose, or meaning in my life. I felt my life and my potential were being wasted.
I was so confused as to why my money hadn’t brought me happiness. Isn’t that what this culture taught me all these years? I decided that day that I would do whatever it took to find the meaning in my life that I needed.
On Mother’s Day in 2000, I was in rural India and met orphaned children for the very first time. I had been invited to dinner at the home of a local family. Nothing could have prepared me for what I was to encounter there. When I arrived, more than 100 hungry, beautiful, parentless children greeted me.
